Concrete in full sun hits 40°C. Grass hits 23°C. Add a tree and you knock off another 10 degrees! We’ve had two record heatwaves already this year. The RHS, the Woodland Trust and the HTA are now asking government to support an increase in domestic tree production – because the UK doesn’t grow enough of its own trees to keep up. “Plant a tree” can sound tokenistic.
